Shyrdaks

Kyrgystan's tourist information centers often double as gift shops. The most popular souvineer is a shyrdak. A felt carpet about a half inch thick and embroidered with intriquite (this comupter is in Russian and doesn't have spell check -sorry) designs. In homes they are used as carpets, beds, chair mats, door mats, and wall hangings. If they weren't so darn heavy I'd get one.

Wow, more stupendous pictures and descrip! Now I REALLY want to go to the Stans. Glad things have turned around from the Mongolian bumpy dirt tracks and assault on your GI system.

A word of advice from someone who's been 'out there' and then gone home: try to buy more fun stuff! like that cool decorative thingy. it's a pain in the butt when you're there but now i'm kicking myself i didn't ship more back. it seemed like a frivolous expense then but now it seems like $5 for a rug is cheap.

BTW, if I may say so, Damn Girl, you are lookin skinny! And you maintain your beauty as always.

keep kickin yak
